FAQ's

My holster is too tight on my firearm, How do I make it easier to draw?

If your new holster is too tight on your firearm, simply put your UNLOADED gun in a zip lock bag with the muzzle in a corner, shove your gun into the holster and leave it overnight. The micro thickness of the bag will gently stretch the fibers of the leather slightly to loosen the fit but not compromise the retention on your gun. Wearing your holster with the gun in it will also stretch the leather.

How Do I care For My Angry Dick Leather Holster?

Your holster has been treated with an Acrylic leather finish to waterproof and protect for many years.

The only things that need to be done for maintaining it's appearance and durability are to simply keep it clean with a damp cloth and wax it occasionally.

Do not wax Rough Out products.

My holster seems stiff, Should I make it soft like a Baseball Glove?

Do not try soften the leather by "Kneading" or bending.

Your holster is designed to remain stiff for ease of one handed re-holstering and maintaining retention on your firearm.

It will "mold" to your body naturally from simply wearing it regularly.

Avoid wearing your holster for extended periods of time without the gun in it to prevent crushing the mouth.

What Type Of Conditioners Do You Recommend?

Do not use any oils, creams or conditioners that are designed to soften leather.

We use and recommend Renaissance Wax but you can use any quality Shoe Wax, Carnauba Wax or Bees Wax that doesn't contain any oils, conditioners or silicones that are designed to soften the leather.

Do not wax Rough Out products.

Do You Make Appendix Holsters?

We do not carry our weapons appendix so we have not experimented with the appendix holster side of the business yet. We have to develop and test our designs before we can stand behind them.

We will make them at a future time.

Do You Make Retention Strap Holsters?

A properly pressed and molded holster will have enough retention on your firearm to hold it firmly in your holster, in fact sometimes the leather holds too well and your holster may need "Blocked out" to slightly loosen the fit.

Also, Retention straps can get caught in the trigger housing and cause an accidental discharge while re-holstering.

Why Do They Call You Angry Dick?

I spend decades of my life being uptight which earned me the name "Angry Dick". But I'm not so angry anymore, it's just a fun Nickname now.

Do you Make Holsters for Optics and What's the Cost?

We have a limited number of designs for optics, there are so many optic choices these days that it is almost impossible to make for them all.

Please call to see if we can accommodate your optic.

Optic Cut holsters are $10 more.

What Is Your Production Time?

We are currently quoting 2-3 weeks for production of your Angry Dick products.

We will update production times here and on each product page if they change.

Do You Make Holsters For Lights, Lasers and Attatchments?

We are not currently making holsters for any lights, lasers or rail attachments, the amount of lights, lasers and attachments available today is far too many for us to have every one to mold our holsters on.

Will My Gun Develop Holster Wear?

Unfortunately for people who carry and shoot regularly, holster wear is a fact of life. All holsters cause some sort of holster wear no matter the material or construction of the holster, some maybe more than other depending on many factors. Stainless guns are prone to much less wear on the finish.

At Angry Dick we consider holster wear as a kind of earned badge of honor.

What Kind of Leather Do You Use For Your Holsters?

All of our holster leather comes from Hermann Oak Leather in St. Louis, MO. It is 100% American full grain steer hide, vegetable tanned using traditional old world tanning processes. We are proud to use American leather from American tanneries. When we say "Made in the USA" that is what we mean.

We only use full grain leather, the highest quality grade of leather that money can buy. It comes from the top layer of the hide and includes all of the natural grain. It is more expensive for manufacturers to buy. Full grain leather is incredibly strong and durable, as the natural grain contains the strongest fibers in the hide. It’s also extremely breathable, resulting in less moisture from prolonged contact.
